Medway, Medway: where would we be without you? I genuinely cannot imagine powerpop and ’60s-flavoured organised rock without that scene. After all it has given me some of my favourite musicians of today. Step forward one time Prisoner, Solarflare and Stabiliser Allan Crockford, now emerging as a singer/songwriter in his own right.
His assembled band knows how to propel the songs to a higher plane and there are some superb songs here for them to get stuck into (‘Running through our hands’, ‘Never go back’). Crockford isn’t rewriting the Medway rule book and occasionally his voice lacks the confidence of his previous cohorts but, that aside, you’ve got a solid, enjoyable and thoroughly replayable collection of songs here. The answer to the question the album poses is a definite ‘yes’.
