“Tear Your Minds Wide Open” takes up where “False Memory Lane”, the last album of the English Galilieo 7, had stopped: Neo-Mod mixed with bits and pieces from Sixties garage rock, psych pop, pop punk and folk psych. Allan Crockford, the quartet’s head, has relevant experience. Crockford was in the 1980s bassist of the legendary neo-mod band The Prisoners, which were venerated by bands like Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, The Charlatans or Kula Shaker. He then starred in the Prime Movers, The Solar Flares and guitar with the punk band The Stabilisers. Musically, the twelve songs on “Tear Your Mind Wide Open” have the same class as on the previous work. Of particular note are tracks such as the energetic upbeat Cold Hearted Stowaway, the multi-faceted The Mask, Live For Yesterday, You Tear My Mind Wide Open, or Everything Keeps Coming Round Again. Overall, the twelve songs turned out to be harder. Did the bands hear a lot of The Who during the recording ?!
